IT'S COMING BACK.

After a really long hiatus (because life got BUSY), I've decided I should really try to get this back up again. Reviews/criticisms will probably be much more streamlined and will probably feature more than one review per post. Apologies for being away so long.

  3. I'm looking forward to it. Other films I can think of include Precious, Alien Ressurrection, Heathers and, at points, Calendar Girls.

I checked to see if you piped announcements on Twitter, but instead found a bunch of recent mentions of the Bechdel Test. :)

  5. I just went through my collect and found a few more nominees:

    - The Addams Family (Morticia to Wednesday, Wednesday's teacher and the lawyer's wife, at the very least)

    - The Wiz (Dorothy and Aunt Em, Evilene, and Glenda)

    - Tank Girl (Rebecca, Jet and Crazy Rain Lady about Samantha, freedom in general)

    - Ladies and Gentlemen The Fabulous Stains (the band about performances and touring)

    - The Breakfast Club (well, the two girls are doing make-up at the time, but it it's not about guys)

    - The Long Kiss Goodnight (Charlie and the little girl)

    - The Color Purple (Cellie and Shug, about God and nature)

    - Heathers (conversations about pecking order, being popular and suicide; Veronica and her mother about the nature of adulthood)

I'm not sure if they'd count for amount of time spent on the topics, but I figured that it'd be interesting to see where certain ones succeed and others fail.

  7. Great blog! I've always criticized movies that don't have enough strong female characters, and now that I have this new criteria I'll have to be even harder on them. I look forward to reading new reviews.

  11. Please keep writing! I've just learned about the B.T. and find it fascinating. I'm thinking about The Princess Bride (fail), Krzysztof Kieslowski's Bleu (total win), Reimagined Battlestar Galactica (SO proves the rule by how all-around good it is . . . )

  20. Hmmm...for "an oppressed minority cartoonist", I notice you don't critique many movies about...well, you know, oppressed minorities.

I really do think it's great that you're doing this blog (and in case tone gets thrown off in written word, I'm being serious not snarky), but it is something to think about. Let's help bust the myth that feminism is the exclusive domain of middle class white ladies!
